Dr Ong Chin Tuan is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon in full-time private practice at Beacon Hospital, Malaysia. He completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, graduating with honours. He began his career in physician training and obtained the MRCP (UK) qualification. He then entered specialist ophthalmology training in England and later became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.

Dr Ong received his oculoplastic training in Plymouth, Southampton, and Salisbury. He subsequently spent a further year and a half in Leeds, learning endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy surgery under the supervision of Professor Bernard Chang. His main clinical interests are eyelid surgery, lacrimal surgery, and periocular reconstruction.

He returned to Malaysia after living in the UK for 19 years. He worked as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Malaya, Malaysia’s oldest university and one of its leading academic medical institutions. During his time there, he introduced periocular Mohs micrographic surgery. Dr Ong has a special interest in endonasal DCR. For the past 13 years, he has performed DCR exclusively through the endonasal approach.

In his free time, Dr Ong is involved in medical mission work serving indigenous communities in the rainforest of Pahang.
